On the Farm

Penrhiw Organic Farm

Run by the Cowcher Family for over 30 years, Penrhiw is a Soil Association registered Organic Farm, concerned with crop cultivation and organic lamb and beef production.  On the farm we have several sources that provide renewable energy, heating for the Long Barn and the rest of the farm is powered by our bio-mass boiler fuelled with wood cut from the farm and re-planted.  We have solar panels on the farm house and shed roofs which aid heating our water which sometimes is very hot in the summer! We also have two windmills on the top of the farm where it is the windiest part of the farm which produces our own electricity.

Throughout the year the farm moves with the seasons. In the spring, March is when Lambing starts with a flock of 900 ewes we are all very busy on the farm but it is a lovely time with lots of new arrivals! Slightly later in the year around April-May our suckler herd of cattle calve. We have several breeds such as Welsh Black Cattle, Stabilizers and Simmentals. We have two bulls on the farm: Miller is a Stabilizer and Archie a Simmental.
